Venice, FL — Nora Cietek filed to run for Sarasota County School Board District 5 on January 11, 2022, and today announced the campaign has raised almost $25,000 in just 20 days.

“I am overwhelmed by the support I have received since my campaign announcement. Education is my passion and my life’s work. I am eager to leverage my decades of advocating for student success for the students of Sarasota County”, said Nora.

Nora’s platform issues include sustaining and expanding Sarasota County Schools’ “A” rating and ensuring that all students receive the same opportunities; making students and parents have confidence in the safety of the schools; and keeping national politics out of school board decision making.

Nora comes from a lower-middle-class family with ten children in upstate NY. Her father was the custodian at a school for children with developmental disabilities, and her mother was a school bus driver. After becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college, Nora embarked upon a 30-year career with the Schenectady Public School System. She served as an ESE Teacher, an Assistant Principal, Principal, and the Assistant Director of Special Education for the school system. During that time, she got her master’s degree in Educational Psychology and she and her husband Scott raised three children.

“I am uniquely qualified to be a Sarasota School Board member. I have perspectives as a parent, teacher and administrator and now as a retired taxpayer. I love children. I am, above all else, an educator and advocate and I cannot wait to get to work advocating for the students and parents of Sarasota County”, said Nora.
